Learn MoreWhy They Love Being a Student
He is inspired by his siblings, growing up low-income he sees the impact schools like the Alexander Science Center had on his siblings to pursue a field like stem. He hears his brother at Berkeley talk about his experiences and dreams and strives to work hard to be there one day. As a parent I have always told my kids education is valuable. So he is always working hard to be his best although he is 8, he signs himself up for summer science camp, Troy camp, and reads constantly.
Favorite Subject & Why
His favorite subject is math, he says that it’s because you learn something different everyday. I would agree that it is his favorite subject as he’s recently learning geometry and I found out because he called his sibling to ask if he knew what a parallelogram was. His sibling told him he didn’t know so Alex could ramble on about what he learned about. Although it’s his favorite subject he did struggle on division and asked his sibling for help, I told him even mathematicians need help.
How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals
Being low-income with children studying in academia is difficult. We try to save up for our kids grad school as we know undergraduate years is mostly covered but as we know with the removal of grad-plus loans and an uncertain future. If Alex does want to pursue a masters that’s a hefty costs as I am experiencing it with my middle child right now. I just want Alex to have a more secure and stable financial future, studying whatever he chooses without having to worry about the financial strain.
