Why They Love Being a Student

"I love being a student because, like a newborn, I absorb the world around me. Water droplets teach me hydrogen bonds, a game of pool turns into physics, a painting opens up stories of history, and not just the earth, but now everything suddenly has layers. As a student, I get to sit, watch, and ask questions about it."

Favorite Subject & Why

"Chemistry is my favorite because it’s the bridge between physics and biology, both of which come as a close second. But just as biology supports anatomy, chemistry supports biology. Being able to see anatomy itself is interesting, but knowing why your muscles give out is a different story, because for that you need to understand the sodium and potassium ions, you know?"

How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals

As a first-generation Indigenous Mexican pursuing STEM, a $20,000 award would let me continue my love of studying by pursuing an undergraduate degree in biochemistry. I could give back to my community in a time of need, and invest in EMT training to gain early clinical experience while helping address the critical shortage we face.
