My son has grown so much this school year. He went from being being fearful of the world to studying and sharing everything about astronomy.
Thank you for supporting Benjamin in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for The Planetary Society and their mission to inspire curiosity and help shape the future of space exploration for everyone.
America's Favorite Student will share their educational journey in the pages of Reader’s Digest, highlighting the power of learning and inspiring readers nationwide.
Learn MoreWhy They Love Being a Student
Been at first feared being a student because of sensory processing disorder. He feared the world around him but is always so curious about it. After accommodations and hard work he now finds joy in learning and sharing what he learns. He loves seeing his teacher and all the students and staff who supported him when he was struggling and in pain. He shares his hyper focus information with the classroom to spread awareness of our solar system. He loves to teach to anyone who will listen.
Favorite Subject & Why
Benjamin loves science. From the moment we read his favorite book, “There’s No Place Like Space,” it brought a light into his life that helped him cope with his sensory sensitivity. He has the ability to retain anything he sees and knows each planet in the solar system and its classifications. He loves listening to music about astronomical details, draws and creates his own pulsar neutron star with its own numerical name, he loves wearing astronomical apparel, and especially loves black holes.
How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals
Benjamin wants to be a scientist like Galileo, and Einstein. He recognizes their works and astronomical discoveries. It would open doors to get equipment that will further his knowledge in astronomy throughout his life. Keep funds away for his future. It has also been a goal to open a workshop for the local neurodivergent people to explore and expand their hyper focuses. A place where we all can grow and learn and be safe from sensory overload. To be amongst like minded individuals. Passion.
