Why They Love Being a Student

Eldi is a first generation student, who is passionate about making sure she lives a fulfilled life based not around money, but what she loves doing. She enjoys taking classes to explore her strengths and what there is to discover in life and apply it to her daily conversations and challenges such as history. She says navigating through high school with her friends is like an exciting adventure everyone can enjoy and make their own experience, which is why she enjoys it so much.

Favorite Subject & Why

Eldi has always since the 4th grade loved writing. She found her strength on her own after doing a creative writing about “Because of Winn-Dixie”, learning how creative vocabulary can get with words like “melancholy”. Her teacher was the first one to say something about it, igniting her passion. Ever since, it’s been her power subject and favorite way of expression, almost winning a contest of meeting a famous author after writing about how a book resonated with her and her Puerto Rican father.

How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals

Eldi has big dreams and goals, and always has. She discovered her goal to become a journalist early in high school, and has been saving money ever since, knowing she’d love and need to travel to discover stories from voices who can’t be heard. Although she works hard at her part time job juggling APs and sports, it is not enough for her dream schools, as we also make about a $60,000 salary. She just recently shadowed a journalist at Harvard and has tours of BU, but it is just so expensive.
