Why They Love Being a Student

He loves learning how things work in the world and gaining new knowledge. School was not always easy for him as he's autistic. But now he excels in school and even takes honors biology. He loves being challenged with new subjects. He goes to school everyday, with positivity and encouragement towards others. He enjoys being someone who helps others understand difficult information. He is also in band and strives to be a mentor in those aspects of his life.

Favorite Subject & Why

Ivan loves science, band, & art. He loves science because it helps him have a better understanding of how the world functions as a whole. From the smallest particles to the largest organisms. He loves band because it's fun and a great way to express himself. As part of his autism, he has always struggled with regulating his emotions and he says that band is one of the things that has helped him regulate his emotions. He is always at his desk drawing and creating his own card games.

How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals

We are a single parent household and the award would be immensely helpful in preparation for his college future. He wants to be a Lego engineer and works hard to ensure hopeful scholarships but college is expensive and the award would help so much.
