Jamie loves learning new information at school every day. He loves to explain new concepts to his family members and shows excitement when he learns new skills that didn't come easily to him. For example, he struggles with reading but loves books about the solar system. As he improves, he gets excited to read more books to his various family members on subjects that interest him (aquatic animals are also a frequent choice!).
Favorite Subject & Why
Jamie loves a variety of sciences. His interest started when he visited a planetarium during a summer camp field trip. We have gone several times since then, including visits to the nearby museum. For Christmas, Jamie asked for chemistry sets, and we found other STEM kits through his friends. Jamie tends to be drawn to kind kids who share his passion for learning new things.
How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals
If Jamie were chosen to receive the $20,000 award, we would invest the funds in technologies accessible to all students in the school district. For example, the school district has a planetarium but needs significant funds for upgrades to keep it open for community students. I would like to see these funds help students access this resource, as the next closest planetarium is an hour away and not easily accessible for less fortunate families in the community.
