Learn MoreWhy They Love Being a Student
She loves being a student because she loves learning new things. She loves asking questions and doesn’t shy away from a new concept. She will persevere through difficult material and challenge herself.
Favorite Subject & Why
Leighton’s favorite subject by far is reading/Language Arts. She always has her nose in a book- or 5- at any given point in time. She loves fiction but also loves books that are based in factual history. She also likes books that broach hard topics such as foster care or hard family dynamics, immigration, and racism.
How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals
This award would directly support Leighton’s dream of becoming an occupational therapist, specializing in equine-assisted therapy. Riding since age four, she understands the human-animal bond deeply. With a younger brother with autism and foster siblings with diverse needs, she’s seen how therapy—and connections with animals—transform lives. She hopes to combine her passions for helping children and working with horses in her future career.
