Why They Love Being a Student

Oliver loves being a student because he loves to learn, he craves knowledge and opportunity. While so many students pursue academics for the letter grade, Oliver does it to explore and gain an understanding of the world around him. Being a student allows him to pursue his passions, be it aerospace engineering, metal casting and forging, modeling fluid dynamics or building robots, while also giving him the opportunity to attend football games, musicals and still be a kid.

Favorite Subject & Why

Oliver's favorite subject is math because it is the language he speaks, and it is the language of the natural world. Math comes naturally to him, he said it’s “Easy Peezy”, so he enjoys being able to spend much of his class time helping others. He is intrigued by the simplicity in numbers, but also the fact that so much of the universe is defined by mathematics. Oliver is very analytical, and math falls right in line with the way his brain works.

How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals

$20k would help Oliver with hands-on and real-world learning, well beyond simple classroom instruction. From travel for experiential learning at places like NASA’s JPL, to software programs and college visits and tuition, Oliver would not be at a loss to put $20k to good use. He said he would also like to provide additional funding for the middle school robotics team he currently coaches so they have additional resources to work with.
