Why They Love Being a Student

Porter loves to understand the world around him. He looks for connections in different subjects everyday to be the most well-rounded and successful student he can be. Porter has the opportunity to get involved with musical ensembles with other great students, who he whole heartedly supports, learns from, and performs with. Porter also gets involved with school clubs like DECA and SkillsUSA, where he collaborates with fellow students to market and present ideas created from difficult scenarios.

Favorite Subject & Why

Porter LOVES his music classes. Porter is a part of his school's Concert Band where he plays the flute & oboe, Jazz Band where he plays his upright bass & electric bass, Orchestra where he has played the violin, viola, & upright bass, & independently plays his guitar, piano, accordion, & trumpet. His Jazz ensemble has made it to state in both 2025 & 2026. Porter feels that applying what he learns in his music to his academics, specifically math & science, has given him a huge advantage.

How $20,000 Would Support Their Goals

Porter would take $20,000 and invest it diversely until he can invest it into his education as he plans on enrolling at the University of Utah to pursue a graduate's degree in Nuclear Engineering. He wants to take this education to build nuclear power plants to create a long term, safe, clean, and cheap source of energy for the people in his community, and share his research with the rest of the country, and perhaps the world.
